It is estimated that more than five million Americans suffer from actinic keratosis (pre-cancer lesions), another eight million suffer from acne, and an unlimited number suffer from actinic (photo-damaged) skin. In all three conditions of the skin, inflammation and free-radical damage causes thinner, leathery and coarse skin.
PDT involves the marriage of drug and device. Levulan® Kerastick® is absorbed by rapidly dividing pre-cancer, cancer, and large hyper-active oil gland cells (acne) of the skin. Normal tissue and cells do not absorb Levulan® at the same rate and concentration as rapidly dividing cells with high oxygen demands.
Levulan®, once absorbed by abnormal cells and activated by IPL & blue light illumination, destroy the pathological cells without damaging surrounding normal skin. The net effects are improved skin texture, decreased pore size, eradication of up to 100 percent of pre-cancer cells (in about two thirds of patients), up to 90 percent clearance of acne & cysts, up to 60% reduction in scarring, and healthier, more vibrant skin!
Other benefits of IPL-PDT include elimination of redness, flushing, brown spots, broken blood vessels, and unwanted facial dark and white hair when used with the IPL phototherapy system, such as Epilight and Photoderm. Many light sources may be used to activate the Levulan®, but only IPL activation provides these additional benefits.
Whilst there are many emerging therapeutic modalities available, PDT clearly addresses more skin conditions than any other device or drug on the market. No other such combination eliminates pre-cancer, cancer, actinic, and acne infected skin cells. All clients may benefit from a series of IPL-PDT sessions. Our mission is employing state-of-the-art skin rejuvenation techniques and technology substantiated by medical research to deliver safe, effective, and positive results.
Medicine is a balanced combination of art and science. Experience, technology, confidence, and ingenuity are the foundations of our successful and thriving practice. Accordingly, Dr. Michael Escobedo realizes that new products and medications are released daily and it is premature and irresponsible to abandon a proven technique for an unproven new technology.
All procedures and services are strictly performed by Dr. Escobedo. We believe that in order to ensure patient satisfaction, quality control and exceptional results, a licensed and trained physician should administer each service. Some advertisers claim to be the first physician in their "specialty" or advertise a high level of "combined experience".
No one physician can claim to be the first to offer many of the services offered to the citizens of Central Texas by Dr. Escobedo.
We advise anyone seeking similar services to ask a friend or family member for a referral. Base your decision on a provider's experience, reputation, and proven results - not on presumptions.
